Pinterest making a comeback, heat wave in SF, and updates on the CA surcharge ban
Today’s newsletter is 583 words - a 2-minute read (5-minute if you’re…🐌)
Welcome everyone,
Who we are: We’re Chris & Nolan (@chrisnolansf), two former colleagues who met via investment banking in San Francisco and bonded over the f***ing horrible incredible learning opportunities. We’re now working on a couple ventures together and thought, why not add a newsletter to the ever-growing list. So here we are. What we’ll be writing about → the latest business and cool local news in San Francisco.
Why the name: SF Whisper? Because… at the end of each newsletter 👇, we’re going to have a whisper. This could be a secret, or a fun prize like:
dinner & drinks with us at Quince Taco Bell Cantina
trending spots in the City for entertainment & nightlife
new hot restaurants and bites
our feet pics 🦶 👀
Anyways. Let’s get started.
Is Pinterest hot again??

Pinterest, once considered an under🐕️ in the social media realm, is making a remarkable comeback. Despite past struggles with user retention and leadership woes, the platform is now showing promising signs of rejuvenation under CEO Bill Ready's guidance.

Will they overtake Snap soon? Source: Guideline
With a savvy blend of strategic improvements, including enhanced shopping features and better advertising metrics, Pinterest is regaining its footing in the digital landscape. However, whether this resurgence will translate into a lasting success story remains to be seen as the company navigates the challenges of sustaining its momentum.
Get your swimsuits and sunscreen ready

80+ degrees in SF this week!
The Bay Area is in for a 🔥 wave! It’s time to get out the summer clothes with downtown San Francisco expecting to reach its highest temperature of the year. Whether you head to Marshall’s Beach, Crissy Field, Baker Beach or Ocean Beach remember to wear that sunscreen 😎
Inland areas could see highs in the low 90s, while coastal regions might experience some relief. Vulnerable groups should stay hydrated & use sun protection — temperatures likely to cool by the weekend, but remain warm throughout the month.
CA surcharge ban: how it impacts SF

Are menu prices going to up even more?? 😥
We’ve all seen these pesky surcharges and questioned what they were. Well… starting July 1st, a new California law will ban all restaurant surcharges, folding them into listed menu prices as part of an effort to enhance pricing transparency. While customers applaud the move, many restaurateurs are anxious about its impact given prices of their food will naturally increase.
The Golden Gate Restaurant Association and other industry groups are lobbying for amendments to the law, fearing it will adversely affect the struggling dining industry. Despite concerns about potential sticker shock, the Attorney General emphasizes that the law won't affect overall prices but rather aims to ensure consumers aren't surprised by hidden fees.
